BRDC is an autonomous registered Society of the Government of Meghalaya and was set up in 2008 under the Meghalaya Planning Board
The objective was to undertake field research, experimentation and development of value added products/technologies for conservation and sustainable utilization of bio-resources of the State. The Centre identifies, formulates, executes/co-ordinates and follows-up projects on various aspects of conservation and sustainable utilisation of bio-resources of the State.
BRDC is funded by the Planning Department, Govt. of Meghalaya and the Department of Bio-technology (DBT), Govt. of India.
This field research organization hosts a centre of excellence in its facility, which was set up by the National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow in collaboration with the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA).
Here is a news report about the above event:
The best part is that team Zizira has had the privilege of meeting the Director of BRDC, Dr. Thabah and a Programme Associate Ms. B.S. Challam, and have visited their facility in Shillong. Zizira had Lots to learn from this organization.
There are a few posts on Zizira which refer to BRDC. Read and see how our visits to BRDC went and what we saw and learnt.
